Welcome to Australia! Australia is the largest country in Oceania and home to one of the oldest continuous cultures on earth. The Aboriginal Australians came to Australia around 60,000 years ago. After colonization it became primarily populated by convicts transported there by England and Ireland. Today around 20% of the population have descended from convicts. Giving it a unique culture that thrives today.

For today's meal I decided against the national dish of Roasted lamb but a more modest, but just as popular dish, the meat pie. Think of meat loaf in pie form! This was a simple and easy recipe that very much felt like a comfort meal. The process was similar to Shepards pie and only required about 15 minutes of labor. This gave me plenty of time to listen to some Courtney Barnett and get properly liquidated. A recent survey found Australia may be the drunkest country in the world!

Unfortunately, from lack of planning and patience I will admit I used some Pillsbury pie sheets for the pie. I also snuck a decent amount of garlic in the pie after I browned the meat.

It turned out fantastic and we paired it with some baked beans and corn. I should of taken the pie out 2 minutes earlier as the edges did get burned but that is life. As is traditional in Australia we covered this pie in Ketchup!

Over all this is a solid 8 out of 10. I will be making this again it was easy, tasty and provided plenty of left overs. Please check in next week for Austria, I believe we will be making some Weiner Schnitzel!
