Welcome to Austria! Austria is home to Europes tallest waterfall, the largest ice cave in the world, and the oldest zoological garden in the world. Austria is landlocked and boarders eight other countries. It is also one of only 6 countries in Europe that is not part of NATO.

One of Austrians most popular dish is the Wiener Schnitzel. They take this dish so serious that laws protect the dish and it can only be called Schnitzel if it is made with Veal. Wiener Schnitzel is a simple dish of breaded and fried veal cutlets. This was not an easy choice though. One of Mack and I's favorite restaurants in Kansas City is Grünauer. They make a delicious Schnitzel but an even better Sauerbraten. However after research this is considered more of a German dish so we will save it for when we get to the G's.

For this dish I used a recipe by Jennifer McGavin from https://www.thespruceeats.com/wiener-schnitzel-recipe-1447089.

My favorite part of this experiment is learning new things and I learned 2 very important things from this recipe. The first is when frying you must truly beat the eggs until they change color and consistency. The second is you don't press the bread crumbs into the meat but gently roll it in so it creates a sort of loose covering.

We paired this with a red cabbage boiled in vinegar and apples along with a baked potatoes. I found it difficult to keep the oil at the correct temperature so unfortunately some were a little more fried then others.

It turned out very well and was a delicious easy meal to make on a weeknight. I would give this a 7 our of 10. I will likely make this again but with chicken next time. The veal from our grocery store was rather tough and long. The cabbage was good but no were near as good as Grünauer. Check in next week for Azerbaijans

I will be starting a new part of this blog were I will compete the dishes into a top three to keep track of our favorites. With the 10 dishes made these are the current rankings.

3rd Place - Austrian's Wiener Schnitzel

2nd Place - Australian's Meat Pie

1st Place- Argentina's Asado
