Mhmmm Fish balls! Welcome to Barbados. A lovely Island in the Caribbean. Barbados is the birthplace of Rum, Rhianna, and Grapefruit. It is also home to the flying fish, another fish we will not be trying today unfortunately. Barbados is known for its pirate history and beautiful beaches.

Seeing as I wasn't going to be able to get any flying fish, we decided to make another popular dish from Barbados: fish cakes. They are so popular there is even a song about making and eating fish cakes to cook along too. Fish cakes are a staple to the vibrant culture of Barbados and commonly served for breakfast or between two slices of bread for a fish cake sandwich. I used the recipe from Barbados.org https://barbados.org/barbados-recipes-fishcakes.htm.
These cakes are a simple and quick meal that involves some light frying. They are dipped in Marie Rose sauce. Marie Rose sauce is a British sauce that is essentially ketchup, mayo, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, and black pepper. I decided to pair it with some broccoli and homemade potato chips.

One skill that I think I am going to get better at as this experiment progresses is frying. I messed up the first few cakes but got the hang of it near the end. I only wish I had gotten less cod. I made way too many and although they were great the first day after they became a little gross.

Disclaimer!! This is a fishy meal and I mean like Johnny Depp getting off a shrimper with Forrest Gump fishy. Our entire apartment smelled like fish for about a week after making these along with our laundry and dishes. However, if you like fish, which I do, it was a great meal. If you do not, like Mack, it was pretty bad.
Overall I give this meal a solid 7 out of 10. It's not a lot of work and pretty tasty. But it was nothing crazy special either just some good fried fish. Check in next week where we will be Dishing' Around in Belarus!
