Welcome to Benin! Benin is in Africa, bordering Niger, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, and Ghana. It is the birthplace of Voodoo and snakes represent prosperity and wisdom. There is even a temple that is filled with hundreds of snakes that roam freely. For Benin I made a common dish eaten all over known as Atassi or Watche. I used a recipe found on Embassy Direct, https://www.embassydirect.co.za/2020/05/27/atassi-or-watche-benin/

Atassi is essentially rice and beans. The only thing that makes it different is its use of daja sauce. Daja sauce is a mixture of spices, dried prawns, and tomatoes. It is not very spicy but tastes more like a mild salsa.

This was not a particularly exciting dish but it was easy quick and tasty. Mack loved it and ate leftovers which is always high praise from her. It was good reminded me of the food I survived off of while in college and was a great weekday dinner.

Overall Atassi gets a 6 out of 10. Quick tasty and simple. Check in next week for Bhutan where we will try a very... interesting dish... I'm scared lol.
